Getting to Mainz
By plane
There are two airports nearby:

1) Flughafen Frankfurt Rhein-Main, continental Europe’s largest airport. Flughafen Rhein-Main

The easiest way to get from the airport to Mainz HBF (main station) is by direct long-distance rail service (about 20 minutes) or regional rail and S-Bahn connections (between 20 to 40 minutes). The S-Bahn calling at Mainz HBF is “S 8” (direction Wiesbaden). Do not take trains that terminate in or call at Mainz-Kastell, as these do not stop in Mainz! Reiseauskunftsdienst RMV/Fraport

2) Hahn Airport is further away to the east of Mainz but has the advantage of budget connections to many European cities. Flughafen Frankfurt Hahn/Hunsrück

There is an airport shuttle bus that takes you in 70 minutes from Hahn airport to Mainz Central Train Station. Airportshuttlebus
